Experience the Thrill of a Sports Tournament

Sporting events are always a big deal. Sure you’ve been to one at least once. There are sportsmen and teams from different countries, fans, concerts, fireworks. It’s always like a holiday for the country. Below you will learn about just such events.

Types of sports tournaments

Historically, different types of competitions have formed. Let’s have a look at the most common of them.

  • Single Elimination. The point here is simple: The losers are excluded, and the winners move on to the next round until there is only one participant left – the tournament champion. A single-participant is convenient when the number of members is large, time is short, and the number of venues is limited. Of all the competitions, this one requires the least number of games, but half of the participants are dropped out after one game, and only a quarter of the contributors remain after the second round.
  • Double Elimination. This is where teams fight and those who lose twice are eliminated. After a loss they move to the losers group where they will face off in a championship match where they must defeat the champion of the winning group twice.
  • Triple Elimination. As with the previous two formats, Triple means that a team or player must lose 3 times to be eliminated from the tournament. If a team loses in the winners group, they move to losers group 1, if they lose there, they move to losers group 2. If they lose in bracket 2 they are removed.
  • Round Robin. A round robin ensures the maximum number of participants. Here, each competitor/team plays every other competitor an equal number of times. The participant or team with the best record or win-loss percentage is declared the winner.
